Scams can be difficult to spot; they can look very real and be very close to the real thing. Watch for the unexpected email, call, or text message.
Double check with us anytime rather than risk a scam. The office number is 0345 355 3242.
If you suspect a possible scam, consider the following:
Is it unexpected?
Is it part of our normal communication process with you? If not, is it really us – a scammer may have gathered basic information about you and sound quite convincing.
Is the method of communication our usual method of reaching you?
If not, then please feel free to confirm with our office that it is us.
Is it our contact details?
Slight variations on an email address can easily be missed – double check the email address it has been sent from is correct.
Is it an investment offer?
We always give a written recommendation and explanation as to why a suggested investment or fund is suitable for you.
Do you feel pressured to act?
Does it for example include a deadline for action or mention it has limited availability? Please end the call if you feel you are being put under pressure. Any legitimate caller will accept if you wish more time to think.
What is your own attitude to risk?
Does the investment offer match with your own views?
Does the offer sound too good to be true?
If it does, then it probably is. If the base rate is 5% how can an investment return twice that without an increased risk?
Does it say risk-free or guaranteed?
No investment is risk-free – even cash carries an inflationary risk. Yes, there may be a guarantee on an investment but this is usually paid for by a lesser return. Do the elements of the offer balance properly?
Does the offer have some type of exclusivity?
What’s so special about you and the investment together? Why is it so right for you?
Does it suggest you should click on a link or download an app?
Only do this if you are absolutely sure it is safe to do so.
